Arts and culture form an integral part of education and expression for learners at King David Victory Park. From their earliest days on the campus, our learners are exposed to the wonders of music, dance, art and visual literacy. Our weekly Kindermuzik programme begins in the playschool and pre-primary school, and by the time the learners enter the primary school, their creative spirit is well on the way to being nurtured and stimulated. This spirit flourishes in an art department that encourages exploration in a variety of media through exciting formal and informal classes. The music department introduces learners to all aspects of musical listening skills, choir, group recorder playing and our legendary ‘marimba band'.  By the time our learners reach high school, they have gained a reputation as formidable opponents in the arenas of debating and public speaking, and a number of creative writers and artists have formed the backbone of successful publications and exhibitions, locally and abroad. Under the direction of Headmaster Joseph Gerassi, the talents displayed in the King David High School Victory Park annual music productions have earned us critical acclaim in all circles. Productions have repeatedly played to packed houses and include Cinderella, Joseph & His Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, Celebrations, Guys & Dolls, The Boyfriend, Fame, Cabaret, West Side Story and Footloose. King David Victory Park is also the home of the Jewish Academy for the Performing Arts and Culture (JAPAC) an organisation dedicated to ensuring the involvment of the Jewish community in re-establishing a vibrant Jewish cultural hub in Johannesburg. JAPAC offers a platform to Jewish artists and performers - across the entire performance and art spectrum - to make a difference in society through art and culture. Other cultural activities include the Investment Business Game, Judaic quizzes, Junior City Council, Mitzvah school and Outreach programme and various Olympiads. I think music in itself is healing.
